Star of the War of Flowers

Today I woke up with a strange feeling at the pit of the stomach, as if millions of papalotl - butterflies- were fluttering inside. My bed-covers, made of furs and feathers, were asphyxiating me so I jumped out of them. Just before calling for them, the maids that my father gave to me came. Fast and efficient, they washed me with scented water and displayed the ceremonial dress with pink designs and golden embroidery that I so loved.
It was then that I remembered why was I so nervous.

Today I, for the first time in my 16 summers of life, would be given permission to go out of palace and travel to Tlatelolco city as a messenger of mi father, to deliver Lord Moquihuix news concerning the Great Tenochtitlan.

My name is Atlalmina, and I'm the thirteenth daughter of Uey Tlatoani Axayacatl, Lord of Tenochtitlan. My name means "star that shoots arrows”, therefore, from now on I’ll bring my father’s voice to the infinite corners of the Anahuac, just as the stars above deliver the Gods’ messages.
